huge crush on andrea corr

April 28, 2008

When it comes to music, I’ve got a gender preference. Haha. No, I don’t know why. No, I don’t mean to offend or anything. I don’t even know if it’s offending to some people.

I love music. Who doesn’t right? I learned in one of my classes in criticism that music is regarded to be the best of all art forms. It could be debatable to a lot of artists out there but the reason given to me was quite satisfactory in my standards.

Music was considered the best of all art forms because of its nature. No medium was needed in comprehending music. Paintings needed to be interpreted from its canvas to be appreciated. Literary texts need to be analyzed from the paper. Music, however, is simply to be experienced. We no longer need to analyze or criticize music anymore. We simply let it flow into our ears. That’s it!

Going back to the gender issue at hand. Well, I don’t know if I’m offending anybody about my preference. Most likely not. I’m far from being a misogynist or a chauvinist, believe me. I like women of course. As a matter of fact, that’s the reason why I prefer women vocalist than men.

I mean it.

In my eighteen years of existence in this world, I have developed a “taste” towards female singers. Their different from male singers, of course. That alone could be reason why male and female are divided into alto, soprano, tenor and base. Don’t ask me any technicalities there, I’m not really good at Music back in my elementary years.

I just like the way women sing. The sound is just so beautiful to my hearing. I like the Corrs. They’re like the number one favorite of all time. Along with the fact that I have a huge crush on Andrea Corr, the band seem to be well-oriented and highly skilled in music. Their like really up there on the top.

Some of my favorite female singers and female-fronted band vocalists:

  1. Paramore’s Hayley Williams. Awesome girl. Great voice with a little spunk.
  2. MYMP’s Juris Fernandez. Great revivals and versions of classic songs. Amazingly soothing voice. She’s a local in Davao before. My mom likes her songs. MYMP stands for Make Your Momma Proud (as if you didn’t know!).
  3. Barbie’s Cradle: Barbie Almalbis. Composes her own songs. Sweet voice. It made my little baby sister sleep. Awesome imagery in her songs. More like poetry really.
  4. Kitchie Nadal. A great artist. I heard her sing Rihanna’s Umbrella in another completely different tune against Mojojojo in a contest in the morning show Good Times With Mo in Magic 89.9 one morning. Really great, she lost though. After that episode, I became a fan.
  5. Saydie’s Kat Ang. Emo Scream-o lady. Everything’s upside-down with this band. At first I thought it was an international band or something. Well, who knows, they could be.
  6. Moonstar88’s Maychelle Baay (Lemon Tears). With her Sulat, Torete and Panalangin, you’re sure to marvel at this wonderful singer.
  7. Up Dharma Down’s Armi Millare. I am definitely going to buy her album! I am definitely one of the band’s greatest fans. I am definitely into Up Dharma Down. Bitin na bitin sayo…
  8. Avril Lavigne. My friends love her, my sisters love her, my cousins love her, heck! even I love her!
  9. M2M’s Marion and Marit. Great singers, them two. I wonder where they are now.
  10. Meg and Dia. Blending and rhythm are awesome! I mean it. Great combination of voices.
  11. Rocking Horse Winner’s Jolie Lindholm. Another poetic lyrical band, on my opinion. I suppose the name of their band is based on D. H. Lawrence’s work The Rocking Horse Winner.
  12. Madonna. All time favorite! Like how the Androids sang it: “I’d rather do it with Madonna…”
  13. jetcetera, jetcetera, jetcetera… OR as Sir Nino de Veyra would say: “and so on…”

Like I said, it’s all preference. Of course, I also admire guy singers and guy-fronted bands and all. It’s music. You can be picky but you’ll hear them anyway. I know there’s still a lot of other singer/bands out there I haven’t mention. Maybe I’ll remember them and add them up later. Hah.

For now, I’ll end here and resume my video-streaming.

Ciao!
